Heartless Vandals attack Wizard

Heartless vandals have caused £100's worth of damage to Warrington Disability Partnership's accessible Wizard Narrow boat which is moored on the Bridgewater Canal in Stockton Heath.

Vandals have repeatedly broken into the boat, smashing equipment and slashing the tarpaulin cover. The damage also includes broke headlamps and other vital safety equipment.

The Police have confirmed that damage has also been reported to several neighbouring boats.

The Wizard is a unique wheelchair accessible 40' narrow boat that offers day trips to disabled people and their families within the local community along the scenic Bridgewater Canal.

In 2006, the WDP Wizard Appeal raise £15,000 to re-fit the boat with new engine, fully accessible toilet, kitchenette, re-furbished lift and a lick of paint. This was only achieved with the support of many local organisations and individuals around the Warrington area.

The team hope to have the necessary repairs completed shortly, causing as little disruption as possible to the service. But would welcome local residents support in reporting any unusual activity to the local Police.
