Shadow Minister for Disabled People Drops in on DAD Team
Mark Harper MP Shadow Minister for Disabled People joined David Mowat local Conservative candidate and Clr Paul Kennedy at Walton Gardens on Friday 4th July by meeting up with staff and volunteers from Warrington Disability Partnership the team behind Disability Awareness Day.
Mr Harper was shown around the event site by Event Founder and Co-ordinator Dave Thompson MBE DL. Dave said that Mr Harper was amazed at the size of the event and to the extent that it is recognised nationally and internationally.
Mr Harper said that his visit had inspired him and suggested that the government should look at DAD as a catalyst for the strength of what can be achieved by the voluntary, statutory and private sectors working together in partnership to a common goal.
Mr Harper heard from the team about their individual and collect reasons for being involved. He was impressed by the commitment of several team members who take annual leave from their paid employment to volunteer up to 100 hour in a week at DAD.
Dave praised the hard work and dedication of the team. He paid special tribute to Thorn Cross Young Offenders Institute, Warrington Sea Cadets T.S Obdurate, Lions International, Warrington Rotary Club, Woolston Church of the Ascension Youth Club and dozens of other likeminded people and said that without their support we couldn’t run the event.
Mr Harper stated that he will visit the DAD website to see how the day went.
