10k runners step up their training
A group of 34 staff, volunteers and supporters from WDP are in the final stages of training for the prestigious Bupa Manchester 10K run on Sunday May 20.
Tommy Hammond, who is joining the race for the fourth time this year, is looking forward to the event.
He said: “There are more than 40,000 runners and spectators – and the atmosphere is the best I have ever known. The crowd pulls you along and the runners chat to encourage each other.
“When you turn the corner and see the finish line – you just think Wow its fantastic.”
Tommy, equipment showroom and loans co-ordinator at WDP, said runners usually arrive in Manchester about 9am and stay in the city until mid-afternoon soaking up the atmosphere.
He is working on in his training running different routes at different times of day.
“I don’t really enjoy running so I have to motivate myself – I do the run because it is challenging,” said Tommy.
It is the 10th anniversary of the popular Manchester 10K run which is expected to be even more popular in this Olympic year.
