Shaping the Future - the DLA is safe!

Warrington Disability Partnership in conjunction with Warrington LINks would like to share some fantastic news!

During October WDP and Warrington LINks held a ‘Shaping the future’ event at Monks Club, Warrington to discuss and feedback on the Government’s published Green Paper ‘Shaping the Future of Care Together’ on the reform of the adult care and support system in England.
The suggestion was that the Disability Living Allowance would be scrapped and the money diverted into a new community care budget. This was a cause of great concern for hundreds of thousands of disabled people throughout the country. However when recently asked by ‘Disability Now’ if the payments would be abolished the Care Services Minister, Phil Hope said ‘No’. He said that all the models that the government had done had not included DLA and therefore the payments were not under threat.
This has resulted in a large sigh of relief for disabled people, WDP and Warrington LINks, meaning the New Year looks rosy.
