Job Title: Wizard Team Leader
Hours:
• March to October - 20 hours per week
• November to April — 3 hours per week
Responsible to: Commercial Director
Purpose of the Job:
The post holder will manage the Wizard canal boat. They will work with volunteers to oversee crew rotas, maintenance and administration of the Wizard with the aim of enabling Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP) to provide a high quality service for disabled people.
The Wizard narrowboat is a 39-year-old, 38-foot long steel vessel that operates as a day boat. She is adapted to enable wheelchair access with a hydraulic lift at the front. She is berthed on a private mooring on the Bridgewater canal in Stockton Heath.
The boat takes up to ten people on day trips led by three volunteer crew.
Trips take place weekdays and occasional weekends from the beginning of March to the end of October. During the winter months, the boat requires routine maintenance and checks.The post holder will oversee the operation of the service.
Key Tasks:
• Contribute to the recruitment, induction, training and suitability of new crew volunteers.
• Preparing the boat for use including checking (pre-trip, weekly, monthly and annually) and maintaining the boat in line with a maintenance schedule.
• Liaising with groups/hirers to ensure their needs are met.
• Reporting any issues relating to the operation of the boat or relating to hirers to manager.
• Maintain a suitable number of volunteer crew members.
• Organise a timely, monthly, rota for volunteer crew members on the booked trips and organise replacement crew for any changes to crew availability.
• Provide support, advice, clothing and safety equipment, as appropriate, for crew volunteers and to monitor their wellbeing and interactions with other crew and the passengers.
• Engage the volunteers with Wizard activities and with those of Warrington Disability Partnership to provide a two way flow of information about events, fundraising and other activities.
• Maintain current contact information for the crew volunteers.
• Check and authorise volunteers expenses.
General:
• To promote Warrington Disability Partnership to the wider public and other key organisations in relation to current services. To act at all times to uphold the reputation of the organisation.
• To work within the guidelines of the WDP Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Policy, Equal Opportunities Statement and Health & Safety Policy and all other current WDP Policies and Procedures, where relevant.
• To participate in WDP fundraising and outside promotional events, social events and other activities, as required.
• Travelling to/from WDP locations and outside promotions, when required.
• Such other ad hoc duties may be required and are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the post.
