Disability Heritage

Since 2015 we have displayed a disability timeline spanning from before the Common Era circa 500CE through to the 21st Century. The Timeline is used with visitors to the Centre for Independent Living to show the evolution of language and terminology, society's view on disabled people,religion and medicine and the advances in technology.

In 2022 we secured a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to produce a portable timeline for use at Community events. The portable timeline is displayed in gazebos alongside a range of antique mobility products including a working model of the Invacar AC70 three wheeler car and a 100 year old invalid tricycle and a wicker wheelchair.
